FDAP QUALIFICATIONS :: NCAC
Alternative Route
Criteria
Subject to satisfactory references from a
supervisor and professional referee, experienced counsellors will
be eligible for NCAC accreditation if they meet the following criteria:
- Have at least four years supervised experience as a counsellor
working in the drugs & alcohol field.
- Already be accredited as a counsellor by one of the following
organisations - BACP, UKCP, NAADAC (US), IC&RC or BPS (as
a counselling psychologist) - or any organisation recognised as
an accrediting body by the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors
(UKRC).
Notes on supervision
In line with FDAP's Code of Practice, to be eligible for Accreditation,
counsellors must have been in receipt of regular on-going supervision.
For those providing ten or more hours of counselling per week
the requirement is at least one hour of supervision per week. For
those providing less than ten hours of counselling per week, at
least one hour of supervision is required for every ten hours of
counselling, or at least one and a half hours of supervision per
month, whichever is the greater.
Up to one third of the supervision requirement
may be met through supervision in groups of up to six supervisees.

To apply for NCAC accreditation under
the alternative route applicants must supply two
copies of each of the following:
They must also supply a copy of the certificate verifying that
they are accredited by one of the bodies recognised by FDAP for
the purposes of NCAC accreditation under the 'alternative route'
(note - this must be countersigned by the applicant's proposer).
