FDAP MEMBERSHIP

Membership of FDAP is open to individual practitioners and managers, service providers, academic institutions and commissioning bodies (DATs, partnerships, PCTs etc).

Individual membership

There are two categories of individual membership: full membership and associate membership - as detailed below.

Full members

Full membership is open to anyone working or training in the drugs and alcohol field. Full members are those who have joined in their own right or been named as full members by an affiliating organisation (as detailed below).

Benefits

- access to FDAP “members only” professional qualifications

     [Drug & Alcohol Professional Certification; NCAC Counsellor Accreditation];
- reduced rates on FDAP “open” qualifications
      [eg OU/FDAP Professional Awards for managers & practitioners];
- reduced rates on all FDAP training and events;
- personal subscription to Drink & Drugs News magazine (UK members only);
- discounts on adverts in Drink & Drugs News;

- entry in our online directory of practitioners;
- FDAP member discounts on professional liability insurance

     [with Howden Insurance, Towergate Prof. Risks & W Denis Insurance];
- right to stand for election to FDAP Council of Management.

Cost

The standard rate is £70 p.a., a reduced rate of £35 p.a. is available to those in full time training or working on an unpaid basis. [There is an additional £10 administration fee for initial applications for membership.]

Associate members

Associate membership is open to anyone working or training in the drugs and alcohol field. Associate members are individuals whose membership is covered by an affiliating organisation (as detailed below).

- reduced rates on FDAP “open” qualifications

Cost

The cost of associate membership is covered by the relevant affiliating agency’s subscription.

Affiliate (agency) membership

There are three categories of affiliiate membership: provider affiliation, academic affiliation and commissioner affiliation - as detailed below. [Click here for a list of affiliated agencies].

Provider affiliation

Provider affiliation is open to organisations providing services to people with drug or alcohol problems or to those affected by someone else’s substance use.

Benefits
- associate membership (and related benefits) for all directly employed staff;
- full individual membership (and related benefits) for up to 6 staff;
- reduced rates for FDAP “members only” professional qualifications

- FDAP member discounts on CRB checks [with Cataphract & HRBC].

Cost
Not-for-profit agencies: less than 10 practitioners - £200 p.a. (inc. 1 free full member); 10-24 practitioners - £350 p.a. (inc. 2 free full members); 25-49 practitioners - £500 p.a. (inc. 4 free full members); 50+ practitioners - £500 plus £3 per head p.a., up to a max of £2000 (inc. 6 free full members). For for-profit agencies the rate is twice that for not-for-profits.

Academic affiliation

Academic affiliation is open to institutions providing formal qualifications for people working in the drugs and alcohol field.

Benefits
- associate membership (and related benefits) for relevant staff and students
      (note - student membership is valid for up to 12 months after graduation);
- full individual membership (and related benefits) for 3 staff members;
- reduced rates for FDAP “members only” professional qualifications

Cost
The standard rate is £500 p.a., a reduced rate of £250 p.a. is available to agencies also affiliated as providers.

Commissioner affiliation

Commissioner affiliation is open to agencies which commission or fund drug and alcohol services (e.g. DATs, community safety partnerships, PCTs).

Benefits
- associate membership (and related benefits) for direct employees and staff employed by services funded or commissioned by the affiliating body;
- full individual membership (and related benefits) for 3 staff members;
reduced rates for FDAP “members only” professional qualifications

Cost
The rate for commissioner affiliates is £2000 p.a.
