FDAP QUALIFICATIONS :: OU/FDAP Professional Awards

The OU/FDAP set of professional awards for workers and line managers are Open University-accredited qualifications based on an assessment of workplace competence against DANOS and other relevant national occupational standards - and provide externally-validated evidence of competence against the units covered.

These awards are open to members and non-members alike (but are available at reduced rates to members and affiliated agencies).

Practitioners

(10 unit) Professional Award for Drug & Alcohol Practitioners

To gain this award practitioners must provide evidence of their competence against nine compulsory units and one option from the DANOS standards, as folllows:

DANOS compulsory units

AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance users

(either) AF2 Carry out assessment to identify and prioritise needs

(or) AF3 Carry out comprehensive substance misuse assessment

Other compulsory units [“Health & Social Care” & “General Health” NOS]

HSC 233 Relate to and interact with individuals

HSC 31 Promote effective communication for and about individuals

HSC 32 Promote, monitor & maintain health, safety and security at work

HSC 33 Reflect on and develop your practice

HSC 35 Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals

HSC 3111 Promote the equality, diversity, rights & responsibilities of individuals

GEN 36 Make use of supervision

Optional DANOS units [one from these]

AB2 Support individuals who are substance users

AB7 Provide services to those affected by someone else’s substance use

AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects

AD4 Develop & disseminate information & advice about substance use etc

AE1 Test for substance use

AG1 Develop, implement and review care plans for individuals

AH1 Prescribe controlled drugs for substance users

AH3 Supply and exchange injecting equipment for individuals

AH7 Support individuals through detoxification programmes

AH9 Supervise methadone consumption

AH10 Employ techniques to help individuals to adopt sensible drinking behaviour

AI1 Counsel individuals about their substance use...

AI3 Counsel groups of individuals about their substance use...

Cost: £700 (10% off for FDAP members/affiliates).

NB Those completing this award are also awarded FDAP Accreditation as a Drug & Alcohol Professional at no additional cost.

Professional Development Award in Assessment & Care Planning

To gain this award practitioners must provide evidence of their competence against the following three units:

AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance users

AF3 Carry out comprehensive substance misuse assessment

AG1 Develop, implement and review care plans for individuals

Cost: £400 (10% off for FDAP members/affiliates).

Individual Unit Professional Development Awards for Practitioners

Practitioners can also gain individual unit awards covering any of the individual units (compulsory and options) covered in the 10 unit Professional Award.

Cost: £245 (10% off for FDAP members/affiliates).

Managers

Prof. Development Award for Managers of Drug & Alcohol Practitioners

To gain this award practitioners must provide evidence of their competence against the following four units from the "Community Justice", "Learning & Development" and "Management & Leadership" NOS:

CJ HD8 Support & challenge workers on specific aspects of their practice

L&D L20 Support competence achieved in the workplace

M&L B6 Provide leadership in your area of responsibility

M&L D6 Allocate & monitor the progress & quality of work in your area...

Cost: £440 (10% off for FDAP members/affiliates).

Prof. Development Award in Learning & Development unit L20

This award covers the L&D L20 unit (see above) only.

Cost: £245 (10% off for FDAP members/affiliates).
